Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl.
- Gradually add the yeast mixture to the flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Punch down the dough and divide it into small portions. Shape each portion into a baguette.
- Place the shaped baguettes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Score the tops of the baguettes with a sharp knife.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crusty.
- Let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
For a shinier, crackly crust, pour hot water into a preheated baking sheet before baking. Ensure to cool completely on a wire rack to maintain crustiness.
