  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  3. Add granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter to the mashed bananas and mix well.
  4. Crack in the eggs and add vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
  6. Fold the dry ingredients into the banana mixture until no dry bits remain.
  7. Mix in chocolate chips if desired.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 25 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
  10. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider replacing half the sugar with unsweetened applesauce or Greek yogurt and using whole wheat flour.
